Rookie Recipes

When my stepson Steven was moving out and into his college apartment, he asked me if I could teach him how to make a few things on his own. In our time cooking together, he’s always been an excellent sous chef. But, now he needed to know how to make some easy items on his own.

I started drafting recipes that were great tasting but also easy enough to make after school and/or on a limited budget. I hope you’ll find the recipes in this section provide you with approachable recipes you can either use as a teen getting started, or a rookie chef┬áthat’s just getting into cooking.

Steven has since graduated from college and wanted to step up his cooking game with some of his favorite dishes, so he asked if we could spend an evening cooking together again. As a stepmom, nothing feels better than than your stepchild asking to spend time with you and teaching them what you love.

I truly encourage you to take these recipes as an opportunity to spend time with your kids. You’ll not only teach them valuable life skills, but create a lifelong activity you can do together.
